What is Montessori?

Montessori is a child led form of education; the materials are specifically designed to meet each of the children’s developmental needs and interests. The children have full access to the Montessori equipment throughout the whole day  at their leisure or within a planned activity. The staff at Ambourne House will demonstrate how to use the equipment on a one-to-one basis or within a small group. Once the children have been shown this, they are then free to explore the environment.

The Montessori curriculum is divided into six areas:

  • Practical life
  • Sensorial
  • Language
  • Mathematics
  • Cultural
  • Creative

“Ambourne House Team has been fantastic since my son joined last October, we always felt part of the family. The setting is really good, especially the outdoor space, which stands out in relation to other settings that he attended. But I have to say that the Montessori approach was really key when we decided to enroll him. He developed so much autonomy and self-esteem since he joined but also continued to be very social and in a very short period of time built great relationship both with staff and other children.”

quotes

For everyone at Ambourne House. Thankyou so much for all the support and kindness you have shown towards my son since his 1st day with you all. He has grown so much in confidence and in all his developments stages. Having him at Ambourne House was the best decision we both made. After visiting a few local settings, he was very certain he wanted to go to ‘the blue house’. It felt like a family environment and all the staff were so welcoming. I always felt at ease that he was very well looked after and safe. So, Thankyou so much. my son will miss Pre-school very much and his dad said he was teary when he was on his way home. Although this is sad to see, it gives us reassurance that by these emotions he was very fond of everyone at preschool. - M. Welch 01/09/21
