Our babies had the best time at soft play
From crawling and climbing to giggles and exploring, it was a day full of fun and discovery. Outings like these are a special part of life at Ambourne – giving little ones the chance to build confidence, develop new skills, and make happy memories beyond the nursery walls.
We received this lovely message after our Forest School outing last week and it made our day! It’s always special when someone takes the time to share what they’ve seen – and even more special when it reflects the passion and care our team puts in every day!
Tracing, concentrating… and a whole lot of little smiles! Our kindergarten children have been working with Montessori inset shapes – a fun way to build grip strength, precision and all the early skills they’ll need for handwriting. Learning through play at its best!
Sounding things out in preschool
During our sounds and letters activity, the children worked on identifying the starting sound of different words – an important step in early phonics and reading development!
From tree to table! Our preschoolers picked fresh apples from our very own garden, then rolled up their sleeves to bake a delicious apple cake. Along the way, they learned where their food comes from and practised important skills like counting, measuring, and weighing. A tasty lesson in maths, nature, and teamwork!
Our Kindergarten and Preschool children enjoyed a fun round of golf during our Sport4Kids session! These activities are a great way to build coordination and focus – all while having a brilliant time with friends!
Last week at Ambourne, our preschoolers dove into a fun sensory activity – exploring different textures and building independence through hands-on play. Plus, they practiced teamwork by helping with clean-up afterward!
Join us in wishing a big happy birthday to our lovely Faustina!
She’s such a valued part of our Ambourne team, and we hope she’s having the most wonderful day filled with love, laughter, and a slice (or two!) of cake.
Play dough fun at Ambourne House!
While it may look like just squishing and rolling, play dough is actually brilliant for building strength in little hands, encouraging creativity, and developing fine motor skills.
Our preschoolers have been exploring Montessori-style grooved letter tiles – a hands-on way to build muscle memory, practice letter formation, and grow confidence with early literacy! Tracing the letters into sand afterwards helps strengthen fine motor skills, while making learning playful and engaging
It’s Testimonial Tuesday – and we couldn’t resist sharing this kind message from one of our lovely nursery families!
Kicking off our week with double the celebrations as we announce our July Staff of the Month! We’re thrilled to recognise four incredible team members for going above and beyond.
Piper and Roxie have settled so beautifully into our babies and toddlers room – always bringing positivity. Upstairs, Tegan has stepped up with confidence and care, while Mary’s calm and nurturing presence has been a real gift to the team
Thank you all for the energy, warmth and dedication you bring every single day!
Rise and shine! There’s something special about starting the day your own way – and at Ambourne, that means choosing your favourite cereal and serving yourself. It’s a simple moment, but one that builds independence, confidence and decision-making skills.
A little trip to the park turned into a big opportunity to learn about the environment at Ambourne House! Our toddlers (with a little help from grown-ups!) noticed rubbish around the park and talked about how we can help keep our world clean! It’s never too early to plant the seeds of care and respect for the planet.
This week, some of our children from Ambourne House visited the local nursing home for colouring and company
It was a lovely way for the children to spend time in a new environment, meet new people, and feel part of the wider community! We love finding gentle ways to connect generations
What’s the difference between a lake and a bay? Last week at Ambourne House, our curious explorers dove into physical geography – learning all about landforms like rivers, lakes, bays and more. Through hands-on activities, we’re helping children build a deeper understanding of the world around them – one landform at a time!
Our globetrotters ventured out to Westonbirt Arboretum this week to follow the Stick Man trail!
From learning about nests and wildlife to wandering through a magical forest, it was a day full of curiosity and adventure. The trail is packed with fun, hands-on activities inspired by the much-loved story – perfect for sparking imaginations and learning through play in nature.
A warm welcome to Roxie, who has recently joined our Ambourne family!
You may have already spotted her around the nursery – we’re so happy to have her with us.
Please join us in giving her a warm Ambourne welcome!
Mix, pour, squish – repeat! Our babies love getting hands-on with salt dough, building up their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination through simple, sensory fun.
It’s all part of how we nurture curious minds and confident little hands at Ambourne.
At Ambourne, we love encouraging hands-on discovery – and our mystery bag activity is a perfect example. Using their stereognostic sense (the ability to identify objects by touch alone), children explore different 3D shapes, building spatial awareness, concentration, and confidence – all through play.
It’s just one of the many ways our Montessori-inspired approach supports children’s natural curiosity and independence.
Happy Monday – and what better way to start the week than by celebrating! A huge congratulations to Caitlin and Michael from all of us at Ambourne House. We’re so happy for you both and feel lucky to share in a little bit of your joy. Caitlin, you’re such a valued part of the team and we couldn’t be more thrilled for this exciting new chapter for you.
Join us in sending them both all the love and well wishes for the future!

Real-world learning, real-world joy, and a lovely day out for everyone involved!

We’ll miss them more than words can say, but they’ll always be part of the Ambourne House family.
A little late… but worth the wait!
Our June Staff of the Month is the wonderful Luiba – whose kindness and dedication brighten every room she walks into. Whether she’s comforting little ones or supporting the team, Luiba always gives her best!
Thank you, Luiba, for all that you do – we’re so lucky to have you at Ambourne.
From eggs to apex – the preschoolers have been exploring the crocodile life cycle and loving every second!
Learning about the world around them helps children build curiosity, language, and confidence… one snap at a time.
At Ambourne House, we love wooden toys – and it’s not just because they look lovely! Inspired by the Montessori approach, wooden toys help children focus, build real-world skills, and learn through hands-on play – all while being better for the planet Simple really is powerful!
Our Preschool globetrotters have been busy exploring the world – one flag at a time!
They’ve loved diving into maps and colours. It’s been a brilliant way to spark curiosity and build those early geography skills! Ambourne adventures really do go far and wide!

A lovely visit to the library – lots to see, lots to choose and plenty to enjoy! Exploring new spaces and stories together is all part of the adventure.
Join us in wishing a very happy birthday to Melba!
Her warmth and dedication make Ambourne Nursery a brighter place every day. Hope your day is as wonderful as you are!
At Ambourne House Nursery, we don’t just watch children grow – we grow with them. Every smile, every tumble, every tiny triumph matters here.
Our play-led learning approach is grounded in love, curiosity and connection – because we know the early years aren’t just a phase, they are the foundation of everything to come.
Lots of digging, planting and muddy hands in the garden this week! Fresh air + sunshine + muddy adventures – what’s not to enjoy!
Last week, our little explorers headed off to Primrose Vale Farm for a big day out in the sunshine! They picked strawberries, cooled off with ice creams and had the BEST time playing in the farm’s fun play area! And the sweetest part? They brought their strawberries back to nursery to share with everyone
The perfect summer adventure!
A glowing review from one of our wonderful families It’s words like these that remind us why we do what we do. Thank you for trusting us to be a home away from home for your little one!
Welcome to the Team, Piper!
We’re excited to introduce a fantastic new addition to our team – Piper!
Piper joins us with a Level 3 qualification in Early Years and also holds a Level 3 qualification in SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), bringing with her a wealth of knowledge and understanding to support every child’s individual needs.
In addition to her qualifications, Piper has some amazing experience from her time working as a nanny in France, where she supported young children in a home setting – gaining valuable international childcare experience and a wonderful cultural perspective.
Piper’s warm, caring nature and passion for early years education make her a perfect fit for our team. We’re so pleased to have her on board and know she’ll be a fantastic asset to our setting.
Please join us in giving Piper a big welcome!
